8 Days Overland Tour To Tibet (Drive In / Fly Out)

Itinerary

DAY 01: Kathmnandu/ Nylam (3600 m) - 157 Kms. Departures at 6:00 hrs from the Adevnture in Nepal office in Thamel. We drive to Kodari (Nepal / China Border) 4 hrs. After completion of immigration formalities at the boarder, we further drive (2 hrs) to Nylam following the Bhote Koshi River in a deep valley with some overflowing waterfalls. Overnight in guest house.

DAY 02: Nylam/ Lhatse (4050 m) 285 Kms. Drive to Lhatse (6 hrs)  through  Lalungla pass (5,050m) has some of the outstanding view of Mt. Xixapangma (8,013m) highest mountain in Tibet, Mt.Makalu (8,464m), Mt.Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Mt.Everest (8,848m). Overnight in Guest House.

DAY 03: Lhatse/ Xigatse (3900 m) 150 Kms. Early morning drive to Xigatse (4 hrs). Xigatse, the place of the famous Tashi Lumpo Monastery the seat of Panchen Lama until his death in 1989.  Xigatse is the second biggest city in Tibet.  Overnight in Hotel.

DAY 04: Xigatse/ Gyantse (3950 m) - 90 Kms. After breakfast visit the Tashi Lumpo Monastery including the local Xigatse Bazaar. You will then drive further to Gyantse (2 hrs). Gyantse is a small bustling town steeped in history. It lies 264 kms southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of Nyang Chu river.In the 15th century it served as the capital of a small kingdom. After lunch visit Kumbum Chorten which was built around 1400 AD. It later became the main center for trade with British India. Overnight in Hotel Utse or similar standard.

DAY 05: Gyantse/ Lhasa (3650 m) - 261Kms. Drive to Lhasa (6 hrs) crossing the Karol Pass (5110m) and Khambala Pass (4797m). The Karol Pass climbs two lofty mountains, Nozing Khangsa (7223m) and Ralung (9623m). While driving you will see the Yamdrok Tso (Turquoise Lake) which takes approx. 1 hr. to cross around. After passing Khambala Pass, Lhasa valley will be seen to the north. You will also cross the Brahmaputra River. Overnight in Hotel Mandala or similar standard.

DAYS 06 & 07: In Lhasa. These days you will be engrossed with sightseeing and excursion of the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, surrounding Barkhor market area, and Drepung and Sera Monastries. Overnight in Hotel Mandala or similar standard.

DAY 08: Lhasa/ Kathmandu. In the morning after breakfast 1 hour drive to Gonggar Airport. Bid farewell to the holy city and fly back to Kathmandu. Departure of flight for Kathmandu would be approx. 09:45 hrs. (China Standard Time) and will arrive Kathmandu at 09:45 hrs. (Nepal Standard Time). Flight duration Lhasa - Kathmandu is 1hour & 10 minutes. During the flight (weather permitting) you will see the following: Yarlung Tsangpo River, Lake Yamdrok, Mt. Kanchanjunga (8586m), Mt. Makalu (8463m) and Mt.Everest (8848m).
